Living on the Spectrum

For all autism related topics that do not fall under one of the other categories. If you have posted here and can not find your thread, please take a moment to either contact a moderator or look in one of the other forums to see if it was relocated. Describe your coping skills, list the classes you took, suggest the various methods that you've learned over the years - whether they relate to balancing a budget, maintaining a household, being successful in your studies, or preventing a meltdown. Please take a moment to explain what has and has not worked for you, and why you believe that is the case, from childhood to the later years. Our best resource for learning these skills is each other. Check out the sub-forums below as well, and don't forget your towel.

This area and the sub-forums within are dedicated to helping both the parents of autistic children as well as provide support to parents who are autistic themselves. We suggest that this initial forum be used as an opportunity for parents of autistic children to speak with autistic adults, and discuss different approaches that may have worked or been traumatic. Look below, as this forum contains several sub-forums to address more specific topics and situations.

Whether elementary or doctoral, this forum is for the discussion of issues associated with being on the spectrum and the learning process. How do you ask for help? What services are available? Whether a teacher, a parent, or a student - your story can be shared here.

Talk about challenges in finding work, areas that you have found that you excel in, and ways you've developed to cope to working in a world not only always friendly to autistics.

How does being on the spectrum affect finding the right person, being yourself around them, exploring dating, or being in a relationship? A reminder: this is not for discussion of a sexual nature. A separate forum is provided regarding how having an ASD affects one's sexual identity and physical quirks.

Change is always coming, and not always easy to accept. Walk the path with others and share your experiences from over the years.

From conferences to meeting at a quiet coffee house, find a variety of opportunities to both get involved in the autistic community as well as meet those involved in autism advocacy in person, develop and practice social skills, or just find people nearby who share a common interest in this forum.
